Oxybenzone and Octinoxate

Oxybenzone ( C14H12O3 )

Oxybenzone ( Also known as Benzophenone-3, BP-3, and 2-hydroxy-4-methoxybenzophenone ) is a chemical commercial produced from benzoyl chloride with 3-hydroxyanisole. It is a UVB and short wave UVA filter that is used in consumer products such as sunscreen and personal care products. It’s also used as an UV absorber and stabilizer in some plastics. Oxybenzone is the most common allergen found in sunscreens, and is often metabolized into stronger bioactive chemicals.

Octinoxate ( C18H26O3 )

Octinoxate ( Also called Octyl Methoxycinnamate or OMC ) is a UB-B filter which absorbs into the skin. It is formed by combining methoxycinnamic acid and 2-ethylhexanol compounds, which are both harmful on their own. When mixed together, they form a clear liquid that doesn’t dissolve in water.
